By Night - Burn The Flags
This is the full-length debut album of By Night. They’ve released a split CDep with Cypher System last year, just after they got signed to Lifeforce. This album features By Night’s straight-in-your-face playing-style, consisting out of death/thrash metal combined with hardcore shouting. Almost every song on this debut is pretty harsh and heavy - in a good way! It’s possible to mosh to every second of this cd - almost every second, as the 8th song, entitled ‘At The End Of The Day’, is very calm, just like the silence before the storm, or here the silence ‘inside’ the storm. Every other track is filled with heavy riffs, powerful drumming and, as I said before, a huge amout of aggressive vocals. The only negative point regarding this release is the monotone style of songwriting which occurs. Every song, except the 8th, is pretty much built on the same scheme and that’s what devaluates this album from my point of view. Well played, but lack of innovation. Not a bad album, but don’t expect anything completely new and something that is very different as many current metalcore bands.
